White Walkers, known by some as The Cold Ones or The Others, are an ancient species of mythical beings who inhabit the icy tundra beyond the Wall in Westeros, in a kingdom known as the Lands of Always Winter. They are ethereal creatures similar to faeries or elves (the Sidhe made of ice), who have the power to control snow and ice, as well as the ability to raise the dead, turning them into subservient creatures known as Wights.

Head of the White Walkers is the Night King, absolute monarch of the Kingdom of Always Winter. Turned into the First White Walker by the Children of the Forest using a cursed dragon glass dagger, the Night King has ruled his people for thousands of years.

While the Night King has created many White Walkers of his own, all of whom take up varying important roles in his kingdom, he has only one true child; his only daughter, the only White Walker to share his blood, thus making her the heir to his throne - Crown Princess Anastaszia.

Anastaszia Nivalis is the only trueborn child of the Night King. The word β€˜trueborn’ takes on a different meaning in White Walker culture than it does in Westeros. While their β€˜trueborn’ means legitimate - born to two married parents - in the Lands of Always Winter, it has a much more literal meaning. For you see, rather than having been created through magic as her β€˜brothers’ were, Anastaszia was born in the same way that a human would be.

Because of this, she was granted the same powers as her father - and also has his royal blood running through her veins. This by the laws of their kingdom makes her the second true White Walker and also makes her the only one fit to be heir to the Ice Throne.

She has, naturally, lived a very privileged upbringing because of this. From birth she has been lauded as special, her life’s purpose being to one day take the throne and become a great leader as her father is.

Anastaszia grew up within the Ice Palace, receiving a formal education meant to prepare her for leadership. She was taught arithmetic, languages, social etiquette, diplomacy and various other lessons that would be expected of a future Queen Regnant to know. As she grew older, the princess would also sit in on royal council meetings held by her father and his advisors, giving her the opportunity to voice her own opinions on matters of state.

She also spent many hours hunting, horseback riding, and being trained how to use her mythical abilities - and while she has mastered these to a great extent, there are some that she still can struggle with from time to time, something which is often a cause of great embarrassment to her.

The Crown Princess is doted upon by her father, who adores his only child to the point of almost spoiling her. She has a positive relationship with her family and has always been encouraged to be the best version of herself that she can.

From early childhood, Anastaszia has been fascinated by the culture of the creatures who exist beyond her kingdom - Warm-Bloods. Warm-Bloods (the name by which White Walkers refer to humans have been a source of contention within the Lands of Always Winter for some time. When the Night King and his people turned on the Children of the Forest - seeking their own independence from the Children of the Forest, and to no longer be used as weapons.

This lead to what is historically known as the Long Night - which culminated in the Battle for the Dawn which is what lead to the creation of the Wall and the establishment of the Night’s Watch. Anastaszia was an infant during the Long Night and has no memory of it, though in the subsequent years that followed, she of course was educated on what happened and the significance this had on her people.

There have been tensions between Warm-Bloods and White Walkers since further back than Anastaszia can remember. With the passage of time, White Walkers faded into obscurity, becoming something of a myth - an old wives’ tale to scare children with. Meanwhile, Anastaszia received a basic education - as much as could be provided - about Warm-Blood culture. The more she learned about it, the more fascinated she became.

During the hours that she and her ice-horses would ride further into the Southern hemisphere, Anastaszia began to collect several little trinkets belonging to the Warm-Blood realm. She keeps these collections on a shelf in her royal bedchambers, and likes to add more and more to it as often as she can.

It was always a dream of Anastaszia’s to travel South one day, to go beyond the Wall and visit the species that she has dedicated so much of her life to learning about. A dream that she often spoke to her father about. And while the Night King, deep down, also hopes that peace may be possible between the two realms, he has become rather cynical towards Warm-Bloods, having fought against them before. But when his beloved young daughter began speaking so warmly about them and their cultures, the Night King came to hope that the Princess might be the one to broker peace between the species, meaning that there would not need to be any war.

However, there was an issue with this. At the end of the Long Night, the Wall was created to keep the White Walkers from travelling within the realms of men. The icy souls of the White Walkers could not pass beyond the magic of the Wall - meaning that they would have to remain in the Lands of Always Winter.

Desperately craving some way to access the world beyond the Wall, Princess Anastaszia searched for many years for a solution to the problem that lay before her. There were many attempts that she tried, all of which failed. It was only as she grew older that the princess soon came to realise the sacrifice that would have to be taken in order to breach the magic of the Wall.

Contrary to Warm-Blood belief, White Walkers do not live forever. While the rumours of their vulnerabilty to dragon glass and Valyrian steel are true, they do also die natural deaths. However, they have much more extended lifespans than humans.

White Walkers do have souls, and when a White Walker dies, their soul becomes one with the stars and snow - uniting itself with the icy realm from whence they came. It is the magic of the White Walker’s souls that prevents them from being able to travel beyond the Wall.

Having realised that this is, in fact, the hinderance that keeps her from travelling beyond the Wall, and knowing that this travel is the only thing that may ever bring a peace between White Walkers and Warm-Bloods, Anastaszia made a fateful decision on her eighteenth birthday. She willingly sacrificed her own soul to the magic of the Weir Wood trees. This has turned her into a fully immortal being; having now lost the abiltiy to die or to physically age beyond this point.

As Princess of the White Walkers, Anastaszia is her father’s diplomat and advisor. She spends much of her time travelling beyond The Wall in the hopes of fostering peaceful alliances with Warm-Bloods around the world. While sacrificing her soul has not cost the princess her powers, there have of course been lasting consequences; ones that even she cannot yet foresee.

Anastaszia is a friendly, compassionate, noble, adventurous and disciplined young princess with a fervent thirst for adventure and a passion for learning about new cultures. She is well-spoken and skilled in diplomacy, having learned courtly politics from a very young age.The Princess has a great deal of love for her people and takes her royal duties very seriously. While she prefers to take the more diplomatic approach to conflict, she has also been trained in swordsmanship and combat and would willingly lead armies into battle to defend her kingdom if need be.She is extremely loyal and faithful to the people that she cares about. She values loyalty and trust very highly in those who she associates herself with. There are times when Anastaszia can be rather black and white in terms of how she views the world, and how she views concepts such as good and evil. She has very little tolerance for any sort of betrayal and her friendly and open demeanor can turn sour at the slightest hint of a traitor in her midst.Anastaszia does try to hold a positive outlook on life, however, and tries to see the good in people and situations. She values traits such as compassion and integrity, and tries to act in accordance with these as best she can. From a young age, she has been obsessed with the Warm-Blood world, and all of the people and cultures within. She, like a lot of her people, considers them to be a strange and foreign species, yet she is still fascinated by them. Over the years as she has learned more and more about Warm-Bloods, Anastaszia has developed a fervent passion for them, becoming an anthropologist of sorts. She is astonished by Warm-Blood cultures and everything beautiful and wonderful that they create. It is for this reason that her father has named her his royal ambassador, so that she may be the bridge between worlds and hopefully bring some peace between realms. While Anastaszia is, for the most part, a compassionate and caring young girl, she has still been raised in a life of royalty and luxury and this can come through sometimes in her interactions with people. She has had a very privileged lifestyle and has been doted on not only by her father but also by the other White Walkers - and this has led to there being a slight of arrogance in Anastaszia’s personality. She appreciates luxury and valuables, enjoying parties and royal balls, getting to adorn herself in finery and spend time amongst Warm-Blood friends. While she has a very friendly demeanor with her servants and is very protective over them (she will not tolerate any sort of bullying towards those in her service, for example), she does hold a boundary - friendliness but not friendship.Anastaszia tries to see the good in people, but she is not naive to the darker aspects of life, being part of that darkness herself. She also has a different view of death and of corpses, etc, given that she is able to raise and command them. She finds the concept of burying a person in the ground far more offensive than raising them to β€˜life’ again.Anastaszia is a product of her time. The White Walker culture is based on Tudor England and therefore, while it is somewhat more advanced than Westeros in terms of titles and courtly dynamics β€” there are more noble titles etc β€” the historical context of that time period still falls into place. Therefore, her opinions and thoughts as well as how she interacts with people in her dynamic will be informed by the period typical reality of the time. The Princess insists on deference and can behave harshly towards those who displease her. She tries her best not to hold grudges - though again, she has little tolerance for betrayal. But still, she does her best to treat everyone with respect, and she expects to be treated with that same level of respect in return.

Anastaszia has several magical abilities which she inherited as being the daughter of the Night King. As his biological child and with his blood flowing through her veins, she holds more power than the White Walkers that were simply β€˜created’.She has received formal training in how to use these powers and is quite gifted in many of them, though there are some things she struggles with. (There are some ice creatures that she has never quite been able to get her head around creating, for example, though not for lack of trying). The following is a list of the abilities that Anastaszia has.Magic Cryokinesis: She has the ability to control and manipulate ice and snow. She is able to form living creatures made out of ice - this is a power that she has only more recently been able to hone, and she still struggles with creating certain creatures such as ice-spiders; the legs never tend to stick on much to her detriment. She can breathe life into these creatures and holds great pride in what she makes.Necromancy: Anastaszia can restore the dead to life. However, in doing so, she transforms them into wights, zombie-like undead beings that are entirely loyal to her. All White Walkers hold this ability, though the Night King is the one able to create the most wights - able to raise hundreds simply by lifting his arms. Anastaszia hasn’t quite gotten to that level yet, though she hopes to get there someday.Enhanced Strength: She is stronger than Warm-Bloods would be, and trained in the art of combat. She’s learned swordsmanship and archery from a young age.Healing: Anastaszia can heal from injuries. The time that this can take varies depending on how bad the injury is; for example, a skinned-knee will take less time than a stab wound.Regrowable Hair: Anastaszia's hair regrows instantly when cut/shaved. It does not, however, contain any further magical properties.Enhanced Durability: Anastaszia can withstand a lot more than one might think, and is able to take varying hits and falls from great heights.Fire Immunity: She is immune to fire due to the extreme cold that she radiates. She might also be immune to dragon fire like her father is though she’s never found out and it’s not something that she would like to risk.Immortality: Having sacrificed her soul to the Weirwood Trees in order to garner passage beyond the Wall, Anastaszia is now fully immortal. She is unable to die, or to be killed. This means that once she takes the throne, she will do so knowing that ruling shall be her lot for eternity; for all those that came before and would come after.White Walker Creation: Anastaszia can turn people into White Walkers via a simple touch of her bare fingertips. Only she and her father can do this. Because she does not want to turn people against their will, she wears gloves when in the presence of Warm-Bloods so that she doesn’t accidentally turn anyone.Despite these powers, Anastaszia is not completely without her weaknesses. Below are a list of the various ways in which her powers and her choice to give up her soul has been a hindrance to her.Power Dilution: Anastaszia's White Walker abilities are diluted when she travels beyond the Wall - she is not at her fullest strength when she travels South. This can be seen in her inability to create certain ice-creatures, such as an ice-dragons.Sun Allergy: While Anastaszia adores the sun, it can cause her severe headaches if she is directly in it for too long. A mild summer's day that might not cause any problems for a Warm-Blood is likely to cause a painful migraine for her. She often attempts to ignore these problems and doesn't like to make a fuss about it, however. She also cannot drink hot beverages such as tea or hot chocolate as doing so will cause her to suffer abdominal pains - though she loves it so much that she will sometimes take the risk.Dragon Glass/Valyrian Steel: Valyrian Steel and Dragon Glass while neither can kill Anastaszia, can however cause her severe pain and makes her unable to fight back for a prolonged period of time.Halted Aging: As Anastaszia gave up her soul on her eighteenth birthday, this stopped the physical aging process for her. Therefore, unlike other White Walkers, who do age, though at a slower rather than Warm Bloods, she is stuck at the physical age of eighteen. She often internalizes this and in many ways feels that she has to work extra hard to prove her worth as a future Queen. This is both a blessing and a curse.Singular Healing: As an immortal being, Anastaszia can heal from injuries that would maim or kill someone else. However, this power only affects her. She cannot pass on that healing gift to anyone else, meaning that if someone close to her were to be killed or injured, she could not help them - with the exception of bringing them back as a wight, which raises its own concerns.Singular Immortality: Unlike other White Walkers, who will eventually pass on at some point, Anastaszia is fully immortal. She no longer has a soul that can join her loved ones amongst the stars. She also cannot create other amortal beings; meaning that no matter what, she will spend her eternity knowing that the people she loves will one day leave her.

The Kingdoms of Always Winter are the homeland where Anastaszia was raised, and where she will one day rule as Queen. While there are many cultural similarities between these kingdoms and the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, there are also various differences. The following is a comprehensive look at the various ways that Always Winter differs from Westeros.【 Ranks and Titles: 】The ranks and titles of the Kingdoms of Always Winter vary greatly in comparison to those used in Westeros. While the latter uses terms such as Wardens and Lords Paramount, Always Winter's title system is more aligned with Tudor England and their peerage system, give or take a few discrepancies. The noble and royal peerage of Always Winter also contain their own terms of address.Below are the royal and noble titles seen in the Kingdoms of Always Winter, and the corresponding term(s) of address used when speaking to a member of such rank.γ€Ž ROYALTY γ€βž£ King/Queen: The ruling monarch of the Kingdoms of Always Winter, and their respective consort. They hold the seat of absolute power, with the consort sharing in their status, but not the political power - though consorts can and do sit on the royal council and provide valuable advise to help the monarch rule.β†ͺ Term of Address: Your Majesty.➣ Crown Princess: The heir to the throne, and second-in-command. This is the role that Princess Anastaszia takes. As the only trueborn child of the reigning monarch, she is the sole White Walker who holds this title.β†ͺ Term of Address: Your Royal Highness/Your Highness.γ€ŽNOBILITYγ€βž£ Duke/Duchess: The highest rank of the peerage; ranking just below the Crown Princess. They hold dominion over duchies and have rank and authority over lower ranking members of the nobility. A duke will rule over a larger portion of land than a marquess, for example.β†ͺ Term of Address: Your Grace.➣ Marquess/Marchioness: A rank of nobility below a duke, yet above an Earl. Many of those on the royal council hold this title. They do not hold the power that a duke does, though they still hold authority in their own domain, though this is often predicated by their own vassal authority to the duke/duchess who holds power over them.β†ͺ Term of Address: Your Lordship/Your Ladyship. Note: they are not referred to as 'my lord/lady'; to differentiate them from the officially titled Lords and Ladies.➣ Viscount/Viscountess: Ranking below a marquess, they hold title equally to a minor lordship in Westeros. They are the last member of the nobility that may hold land and reign over those beneath them.β†ͺ Term of Address: my Lord (name)/ my Lady (name). It is important to use the full title when addressing a Viscount/Viscountess.➣ Lord/Lady: The lowest rank of the peerage. They do not hold their own lands in the same manner that higher ranking members of the peerage do, though many marry into higher ranking noble houses. The children of the higher ranking peerage are referred to as Lords and Ladies.β†ͺ Term of Address: my lord/my lady.γ€ŽKNIGHTHOOD 』Knights perform the same functions in the Kingdoms of Always Winter as they do in Westeros. Anyone can become a knight, provided they prove themselves capable and honorable.β†ͺ Term of Address: Ser/Sir.【LINE OF SUCESSION】Therroyal line of succession in the Kingdom of Always Winter is predicated on bloodline. Therefore, as the only blood child of the Night's King, Anastaszia was always going to be heir to his throne - regardless of her gender. The nobility practices various kinds of succession. For example, most dukes practice male preference primogeniture, whilst marquess' are more equal preference.【RELIGION】The Kingdoms of Always Winter are a monotheistic faith, the belief in the Great Other. They pray in Frost Temples and teach their young about the history and lore of the Great Other's role in the Long Night.White Walkers believe that in death, the Great Other will welcome them to become one with the stars where they will reign together as one.
